The project
Along the coastline of Middelkerke stands ‘Silt’, a unique event venue that seamlessly integrates architecture, landscape and public space.
The design embodies openness and a strong connection to the surrounding dune landscape. Under one roof, the complex brings together a casino, hotel, restaurant, event space and underground parking facility.
The hotel volume, known as the “bolder”, is a striking architectural feature that subtly references both the natural environment and harbour architecture. Materials such as timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT) contribute to the building’s circular vision and sustainable character.
Through its careful integration with the surroundings, Silt creates a new and inviting public destination by the sea.

The works
As part of Bouwteam Nautilus, Furnibo was responsible for both the above- and below-ground construction works, including the reinforcement of the sea dike. The execution required intensive coordination between structural engineering, building services and landscape design.
Thanks to its intelligent positioning and technical solutions — such as natural cooling strategies and energy-efficient terraces — the building contributes to a forward-looking coastal development.
The works were carried out in carefully planned phases, with a strong focus on precision due to the complex interaction between tidal conditions, building physics and the site’s touristic use. Together, we delivered a safe and iconic landmark for the Belgian coastline.
